Aims and perspectives
of the project
- production of a German version of the 22nd edition of
the DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification). The English version
of the 22nd edition was published in the US in summer
2003
- adaption to German
subjects and matters in order to meet the requirements for the application of the DDC
in German-speaking countries
- development of a German DDC authority file database
- development of DDC-based information retrieval
facilities
- classifying German publications with DDC numbers

feasibility study, analyzing the preconditions
and possibilities for the introduction of the DDC
classification system in the German-speaking countries

approvement of the
project DDC Deutsch by the German research foundation DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft)

starting date for the translation of the 22nd edition of
