Abstract

Free Nets are community access networks most of which are available on the Internet. Librarians are at the core of these networks. Gives examples of how they participate in this movement. Describes some Canadian Free Nets. Free Nets are analogous to the role of free public libraries in the development of literacy as they are a grass roots, democratic response to the opportunities presented by computer technology and telecommunications. Lists library services on Internet accessible Free Nets and civic networks
