Abstract

Many experimental scientist, working in the field of hard sciences and using abstracting and indexing services need to search the literature by data rather than by keywords. Reports the work of Infordisk Ltd., Israel, in developing a database indexing system that enables searchers to search by specific numeric data as well as bibliographic information. the subject field chosen for the pilot study was: the preparation and properties of thin fields and examples of subject queries answered very rapidly included specific values of carrier densities and specific rates of film growth. Describes the 7 files making up the thin films database and reports on Infordisk's plans to launch several new databases in 1995, in the general area of materials science, based on the techniques describes
