Abstract

The emergence of Z39.50 and the corresponding ISO 10162/10163 searching standards have made it possible to provide a single interface to numerous disparate information sources. The parallel advance is graphical operating systems and computer hardware have brought these point and click interfaces to most desktops. Describes the development and design process of a multiple platform (Windows and Macintosh), multiple system, graphical searching tool. The research process of developing a suitable graphical interface for searching and the challenges in supporting a developing network standard are profiled in detail
