Abstract

Summarizes the main European research and development projects in the field of museums. Discusses the rationale of the initiative of the French Presidency of the European Union of which European cultural heritage and multimedia is 1 of 4 top priority areas. Proposes the following actions in order to achieve theses cultural heritage and multimedia goals of the initiative: encouragement of the networking of multimedia resources for the cultural heritage; help for the publishing market; and an organizational framework and terms for European Community intervention
