Abstract

In the wake of widespread confusion about the topic of 'quality', the information sector could learn much from the success of the manufacturing industries in developing effective procedures for manaiging the quality of their products to ensure customer satisfaction. Action has to be taken on 2 fronts: externally, to manage customers' expectations of the product; and internally, to manage the consequences of human or mechanical variability in order to minimize the number of defective products: Discusses some special problems and sets out some guidelines for the information services industry
