Abstract

Sociologists of science agree that the ultimate end of doing science is the production of new knowledge which must be disseminated to the scholarly community through formal publication channels. In return for contributions to knowledge, scholars expect compensatory rewards and recognition, granted in the form of tenure, promotion, research funding, and honorary awards. Formal rewards are typically granted to those who communicyte through channels which meet certain criteria of acceptability
