Abstract

The revised 7th edition of the Colon Classification was released in Aug. 87. It includes changes in main classes and their schedules, common isolates, notation, grammar and the layout of the system. Describes these changes. Points in the new edition's favour are: simplicity of rules; identification of more basic subjects; increased number and variety of common isolates; and increased faceted nature and mnemonic quality of the classification. On the other hand, development of some schedules is lopsided and there are misprints and inconsistancies. Criticises the absence of any CC editorial board, or a newsletter, or a research institution to officially take care of the system.
