Abstract

Describes the evolution of networked electronic information systems at the libraries of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). At UNL, these systems have evolved into IRIS, the Innovative Research Information System which attempts to provide campus wide access to networked CD-ROMs, a variety of other electronic resources and the Libraries OPAC. Focuses on the development of the CD-ROM network and how to access to it was expanded firstly to include ethernet access from the different libraries and latterly to allow telnet access throughout the campus and dial in access from users' homes. Notes also the provision of other resources and services on the IRIS, including CARL UnCover, Gopher access to the Internet and US official publications
