Abstract

Reports results of a study, conducted at Illinois University at Chicago, of faculty use of, preferences for, and satisfaction with either the SPIRS/Prism ot he BRS MENTOR interfaces for their locally loaded ERIC online database. Compare selected features of the 2 interfaces and differences in searching techniques. Presents a detailed comparison of satisfaction ratings, including non use, for 11 system functions (such as author searching and combining sets). Findings showed no significant faculty preference for either specific interface, however, a year after the database became available, the few faculty who did show a preference chose the customised BRS MENTOR interface. The study also studied use of other locally loaded databases by faculty in education and other social science disciplines. Addresses the limitations of the survey
