Abstract
Describes the development of a system of automatic cataloguing, indexing and retrieval of PostScript documents and figures generated from Microsoft Windows packages by university departments. Xview provides a GUI toolkit used in the project for building a document reader interface to display document lists, multiple windows containing contents, abstracts, search results, diagrams and Postscript text. Discusses the indexing of Postscript; the indexer; the reader; transfer of data structures between indexer and reader; indexing and content list generation of single documents; scrolling lists and instance highlighting in Postscript; the querying algorithm; and figure display and Postscript canvases
