Abstract

Der Dualismus von Unterhaltung und Information ist im Journalismus tief verankert und beeinflußt bis heute das kommunikationswissenschaftliche Denken. Der Beitrag argumentiert, daß die Trennung von Information und Unterhaltung bezogen auf den Rezeptionsvorgang unhaltbar ist und in bezug auf die Klassifikation von Medienangeboten zu fragwürdigen Ergebnissen führt. Die Gültigkeit des 'Information versus Unterhaltungs'-Modells wurde vor allem im Rahmen der Soap Opera-Debatte grundlegend in Frage gestellt. Die dabei erfolgte Verknüpfung von Publikumsforschung und Genreanalyse hat sich als ausgesprochen produktiv erwiesen. Erweitert auf andere Programmangebote und Sendungskategorien eröffnet sie die Chance, Information und Unterhaltung künftig auf allen Ebenen des journalistischen Handlungszusammenhangs zusammenzudenken
