Abstract

Reactions focused on the provisions of the machine-readable records for access to the intellectual level of the content of materials described and classified in a catalog. This author explored the impact of minimal level cataloging, retrospective conversion projects, and the limitations of certain formats, e.g., MARC sesrials format, on access to intellectual level of content with a brief look at the perceived need for such access. Other possible connectors to the intellectual level or intended audience that received mention were the use of expert systems and the classified catalog, specifically utilizing an expanded UDC (University Decimal Classification).
