Abstract

Argues that access to online information should be open to all in the same way as traditional printed sources. Describes the availability of the Internet in the USA via libraries and federal government agencies, such as the LoC's National Digital Library Program. Examines threats to this public access from private sector information vendors, together with possible ways of taxing such vendors and using the proceeds to subsidise public access
