Abstract
The binomial system of taxonomic nomenclature devised by Linnaeus provides a classification scheme for biodiversity and a common language for scientists and the layman. Each organism is assigned one name determined by an international code of rules. Changes in phylogenies, disagreements in nomenclature, misidentifications and synonyms commonly occur. The changes in circumscription, posotion and rank need to be accounted for in a bibliographic citation database design to reduce ambiguity and confusion for users. At present, however, all accepted phylogenetic nomenclatural lists are not in a digitzed format for convenient searching. Verifying nomenclature used in the literature is, therefore, very difficult and time consuming. Focuses on the problems of indexing taxonomic nomenclature and discusses methods to adjust indexing schemes to cope
