Describes how the British Library is attempting to build and manage a digital library. Discusses its vision of a digital library and how it fits in with its strategic objectives. Digital library development is being driven by user and information technology changes. Outlines the role of the digital library in the Initiatives for Access programme, its priorities and emphasises the collaborative nature of its development. Funding is being sought through the Private Finance Initiative
