Abstract

Now that multimedia online encyclopedias are being produced simultaneously in 2 versions, one under licence by 3rd parties and one directly by the content producers, it is possible to compare the results. Discusses the differences and similarities of the online versions of Grolier and Comptons and with the CD-ROM versions, in terms of content, searching and quality of multimedia. In view of America Online price increases, Grolier's and Compton's launch of their own services seems a good idea
