Abstract

Environmental information systems aim to provide relevant data collections for legislative bodies and daily administrative work. They are maily represented by the organizational cooperation of data collections of separate specialized information systems, and such an arrangement requires a common denominator of both classification and vocabulary, and the importance of a thesaurus and data model as the basis of a common language is emphasized. The classification scheme follows the criteria of the object reference, because besides the content description, there is a definition of how to deal with the data to be analyzed. The data is structured according to both the topic or specialist origins, and its potential usability. Using a simple mathematical model, demonstrates that the object related classification of data is an important supplement to the data itself: and further points out several possibilities for an object oriented client server technology
