Abstract
Qualitativ brauchbare Zeitungsnachweise gab und gibt es in Deutschland nur für begrenzte Geltungsbereiche. Waren sie für das gesamte Land angelegt, blieben sie in hohem Maß unvollständig oder betrafen nur eine auswahl von Zeitungen. Sofern überliefert, bieten Postzeitungslisten seit dem 19.Jh., Buchhandelsverzeichnisse und Insertionstariflisten der Werbeagenturen wertvolle Anhaltspunkte über das Erscheinen von Zeitungen. Ältere Bestandverzeichnisse sind vor allem durch Kriegsereignisse überholt. Die Zeitschriftendatenbank und das Bestandverzeichnis des Mikrofilmarchivs besitzen einen hohen Aktualitätsgrad, sind aber auf absehbare Zeit nicht in der Lage, den gesamten überlieferten Zeitungsbestand, sei es in Original- oder Mikrofilmform, nachzuweisen. Dennoch bestehen Pläne, eine Zeitungsbibliographie zu erstellen, die dezentral nach Bundesländern erarbeitet werden soll. Als Hindernis für eine Realisierung des Projekts erweisen sich die schwachen öffentlichen Haushalte
