Abstract

In St. Petersburg besaß die Bibliothek der Akademie der Wissenschaften bis zum Ausbruch des Brandes im Februar 1988 den drittgrößten Bestand an Zeitungen. Besonders starke Verluste gab es bei den sowjetischen Zeitungen und denen aus der Zarenzeit. Erhebliche Schäden entstanden, auch durch Löscharbeiten, an 15.000 Zeitungsbänden. Durch nationale und internationale Hilfe konnte ein Teil des Verlustes ausgeglichen werden. Gegenwärtig leidet die Bibliothek an Kapazitätsmangel der Magazine und fehlender finanzieller Ausstattung. Die Suche nach Perspektiven konzentriert sich auf die elektronische Datenverarbeitung, und als modernes Speichermedium wird die CD-ROM favorisiert. Der Mikrofilm scheint der Bibliothek aufgrund einer schlechten Erfahrung als weniger geeignet
