Abstract

Discusses indexer professionalism in relation to training and accreditation, with specific reference to the Society of Indexers registration and accreditation programmes. The society recognizes professional competence in 2 stages: Accredited Indexers are those who have passed the Society's stand tests, and have therefore shown theoretical competence in indexing. Registered Indexers have shown practical competence through SI's index assessment procedure. Outlines the procedures for accreditation and registration and discusses the relevance of these qualifications
