Abstract

A key issue facing the information industry is the development of the DOI system. During October and November 1997 3 very significant stepts were taken in this process: the DOI system, under the governance of the International DOI foundation, went live at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The international Advisory Panel of ISBN Agencies initiated negotiations intended to lead to the incorporation of DOI Agency functions into the ISBN system; and the NISO in conjunction with Book Industry communication in the UK began the process of turning the DOI into an information standard. Reproduces an article which appeared in the Dec 5th issue of Bookseller providing further information on DOI development
