Abstract: Die Kognitionswissenschaft stellt den vorläufig letzten Versuch dar, die Vermögen des Denkens und intelligenten Handelns naturwissenschaftlich zu erklären. Inspiriert von der Computer-Analogie, versuchten die Kognitionswissenschaftler der ersten Stunde, alles Kognizieren als 'Symbolverarbeitung' zu fassen. Inzwischen ist dieser Ansatz in eine Sackgasse geraten. Im vorliegenden Buch werden mehrere implizite philosophische Prämissen als Symbolverarbeitungsansatz identifiziert (allen voran der 'Repräsentationalismus'), die eine adäquate Erklärung von Kognition geradezu verhindern. In der US-amerikanisch geprägten 'Cognitive science' hat sich ein alternativer Ansatz entwickelt, der paradoxerweise auf das Gedankengut von Heideggers 'Sein und Zeit' zurückgreift und die repräsentationalistische Sackgasse durch die Forderung nach einem 'In-der-Welt-Sein' intelligenter Artefakte zu umgehen versucht. Die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer solchen 'hermeneutischen Kognitionswissenschaft' werden in dieser Arbeit ausgelotet, indem insbesondere der Rückgriff auf Heidegger methodologisch und inhaltlich problematisiert wird.
