Abstract
Es wird eine Studie vorgestellt, bei der zwei Universitätsinstitute einer quantitativen Evaluierung unterzogen wurden. Hauptziel war es, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer quantitativen Institutsevaluierung aufzuzeigen. Zu diesem Zweck wurde eine mehrdimensionale Institutsbewertung durchgeführt. Als Datenquellen dienten dabei die von den Instituten selbst verfassten Tätigkeitsberichte sowie mehrere bibliografische Datenbanken (Inspec, SCI, HEP). Die Untersuchung kommt zum Schluss, dass eine quantitative Institutsevaluierung nicht nur von den zugrunde liegenden Indikatoren, sondern auch von den verwendeten Datenquellen abhängt. Aus diesem Grund ist eine vereinfachte und beschleunigte quantitative Institutsevaluierung mit Hilfe von Datenbanken nur eingeschränkt möglich. Bei der Ermittlung der Produktivitätszahlen besteht das Hauptproblem in den verschiedenen Abdeckungsgraden der einzelnen Datenbanken. Darüber hinaus ist bei vielen Datenbanken nur eine eingeschränkte Recherche nach den Institutsangaben möglich
