Abstract
Das Buch und die gedruckte Zeitschrift repräsentieren in den Geschichtswissenschaften das Medium der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation. Geschichte ist seit jeher eine Buchwissenschaft und Gutenbergs Erben produzieren noch immer von Jahr zu Jahr mehr neue Titel. Dagegen verkündet das mächtige STM-Verlagshaus Elsevier auf seiner Homepage, mit der Veränderung der in der wissenschaftlichen Forschung benutzten Instrumente würden auch die der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation weiter entwickelt. Haben also die vielen vergleichsweise kleinen, auf die Geisteswissenschaften spezialisierten Verlage hierzulande technische Entwicklungen verschlafen, weil es an Zeit, Geld und Energie für das neue Medium Internet mangelte? Ohne Zweifel sorgt die Materialbezogenheit historischer Forschung, also der Rückgriff auf die große Zahl vorhandener gedruckter Publikationen und handschriftlicher Ouellen sowie Materialien in anderen medialen Formen, dafür, dass sich der mediale Wandel in den Geisteswissenschaften-im Unterschied zu manchen STM-Fächern - langsamer vollzieht.
