Abstract
Im Mittelpunkt der internationalen Konferenz CULTURE: From Information to Knowledge. The role of culture in the knowledge based society standen die veränderten Aufgaben und Funktionen von Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen als Kulturinstitutionen auf dem Weg zu einer Wissensgesellschaft im digitalen Zeitalter. Die Veranstaltung fand vom 07. bis 09.04.2003 in der Russischen Staatsbibliothek in Moskau statt und richtete sich an nationale und internationale Fachvertreter von Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen (BAM) sowie an Ministerien, Förderinstitutionen und Vertretern der IT-Branche. Sie ermöglichte einen regen Informations- und Erfahrungsaustausch sowohl auf nationaler als auch auf internationaler Ebene - von den über 400 Konferenzteilnehmern kamen 74 aus dem Ausland. Die Konferenz wurde zum 175-jährigen Bestehen der Russischen Staatsbibliothek (RSL - Russian State Library) veranstaltet und vom russischen Kulturministerium, dem British Council und der Andrew W. Mellon Foundation unterstützt. Zudem fand sie im Rahmen des von der EU geförderten CULTIVATE RUSSIA-Projekts statt.
