Abstract

Der "Röhrich" informiert in leichtverständlicher Sprache und wissenschaftlich fundiert über Bedeutung, Herkunft und Anwendung von rund 15 000 Redensarten. Die Jugend- und Werbesprache unserer Zeit wurde dabei ebenso berücksichtigt wie fremdsprachliche Entsprechungen zu deutschen Redensarten. Etwa 1000 Abbildungen aus zeitgenössischen Quellen veranschaulichen den Ursprung vieler sprichwörtlicher Redensarten und bieten damit ein einzigartiges Anschauungsmaterial von kulturhistorischer Bedeutung. Umfangreiche Literaturangaben und kurze Zusammenfassungen des gegenwärtigen Forschungsstandes runden dieses einzigartige Werk ab. Interessant und anregend für alle, die praktisch oder theoretisch mit Wort und Bild arbeiten oder auch einfach nur Spaß an der Vielfalt und Treffsicherheit des gesprochenen Wortes haben: "... nicht einfach ein Zitatenbuch oder eine Spickfibel ..., (sondern) eine überaus gründliche Arbeit, die tief in die Kulturgeschichte und ins kollektive Gedächtnis der Deutschen führt" (Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger).
