Abstract
Das Ziel dieses kurzen Berichtes ist es, den Mitgliedern der DMV die Existenz des Zentralarchivs für Mathematiker-Nachlässe in Erinnerung zu rufen, das sich wie jedes Archiv um die Bewahrung, Erschließung und Bereitstellung von historischen Quellen und Dokumenten bemüht. Vor gut zehn Jahren haben die DMV und die Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen einen Vertrag zur Einrichtung eines zentralen Archivs für Älathematiker-Nachlässe beschlossen (s. Mitteilungen der DMV 1-1993, 32-33). Zu Beginn des Projekts ergab sich die Möglichkeit, aus Mitteln des Arbeitsamtes, der Bibliothek und der DMV eine Stelle zu finanzieren, deren Inhaber die Aufgabe hatte, die noch unbearbeiteten Mathematikernachlässe der Bibliothek zu sichten und zu katalogisieren. Seit einigen Jahren finanziert die Akade mie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen diese Erschließungsarbeiten auf einer Halbtagsstelle und sorgt darnit dafür, dass neue Nachlässe zügig für den Benutzer erschlossen werden können, und die Dokumente der mathematikhistorischer Forschung nach Ablauf der üblichen Sperrfristen zugänglich sind. Seit 1992 hat das Zentralarchiv eine ganze Reihe von Mathematiker-Nachlässen erwerben können. die gemeinsam mit den älteren Nachlässen der Bibliothek - zu nennen sind vor allem Carl Friedrich Gauß, Bernhard Riemann, David Hilbert und Felix Klein.
