Abstract
Die elektronische Datenbank pharmazeutischer Wirkstoffe "Pharmaceutical Substances (PS)" (Georg Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart) wird ab sofort auch vom Fachinformationszentrum (FIZ) Karlsruhe über seinen führenden Online-Service STN International weltweit angeboten. Über 2.300 Wirkstoffe sind jetzt über das "Scientific and Technical Information Network", kurz STN, online recherchierbar. Halbjährliche Aktualisierungen und effiziente Suchfunktionen ermöglichen den schnellen Zugriff auf die jeweils benötigte Information. Die vom Thieme Verlag produzierte Datenbank bietet ausführliche Informationen zu allen wichtigen pharmazeutischen Substanzen und umfasst rund 2.300 aktive pharmazeutische Wirkstoffe (API's) sowie ca. 8.200 Reaktionsschemata, die für die chemische und pharmazeutische Industrie von Interesse sind. PS ist eine wertvolle Informationsquelle für jeden, der mit Design, Entdeckung, Entwicklung und Prüfung von Arzneimitteln zu tun hat. Aus den in "PS" gelisteten Wirkstoffen setzen sich alle im Handel erhältlichen Medikamente zusammen. Sie sind eine wichtige Grundlage für die Arbeit von Chemikern in Pharmaunternehmen. "PS" erschien im Thieme Verlag zunächst als ein-, später als zweibändiges Werk (Pharmaceutical Substances. Syntheses, Patents, Applications) und liegt seit kurzem auch als elektronisches Verzeichnis vor. Neben der vom Thieme Verlag vertriebenen Version wird die neue Datenbank PS als Host-Variante nur über STN angeboten. Wer sich einen ersten Überblick über Informationen zu Arzneimitteln verschaffen möchte, ehe er auf detailliertere Primärliteratur wie die Original-Patentanmeldung oder Original-Forschungsberichte zugreift, kann dies in PS tun. Die umfassende Indexierung bietet Nutzern einen schnellen pharmazeutische Inhaltsstoffe miteinander zu vergleichen
