Abstract

Im ersten Teil in Ausgabe Nr. 2, 2003, 5. 107 ff, ging es im Wesentlichen um die Grundlagen von Informations- und Kommunikationsprozessen. Dabei stand die zeichenbasierte Information und Kommunikation im Mittelpunkt. In diesem Beitrag soll herausgearbeitet werden, warum gerade ab der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts Information einen immer größeren Stellenwert in Wirtschaft, Politik, Gesellschaft und Kultur erhielt und später gar zu einem epochalen Begriff "Informationsgesellschaft" avancierte. Darüber hinaus sollen die charakteristischen Merkmale einer Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft umrissen werden.
