Abstract

In philosophischen Einführungswerken bzw. in Grundkursen der Philosophie sucht man in aller Regel vergebens nach einer Abhandlung zum Thema Information. Auch in der Mehrzahl der namhaften und im Studienbetrieb üblicherweise genutzten philosophischen Fachwörterbücher fehlt der Informationsbegriff als Terminus technicus: Nur in ganz wenigen Ausnahmen finden sich knappe Bezugnahmen auf seine ehedem - d.h. in Antike, Mittelalter und noch in der beginnenden Neuzeit- nachweisbare explizite Verwendung in ontologisch-erkenntnistheoretischem Kontext, die aber mit dem Abschied von den scholastischen Denksystemen und ihrer Fachterminologie ein Ende fand. Die in wenigen philosophischen Fachlexika nachzulesenden Hinweise auf die seit den späten 20er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts entwikkelte Informationstheorie referieren meist "unbeteiligt" und sehen kaum Anknüpfungspunkte an die philosophische Tradition. Der heutige umgangssprachliche Gebrauch von Information im Sinne von Auskunft, Botschaft, Mitteilung, Nachricht ist Ergebnis einer Bedeutungsentwicklung, die sich eher aus den früh nachweisbaren juristischen und pädagogischen Verwendungszusammenhängen als aus dem klassischen philosophischen Sprachgebrauch ergeben hat. Gleichwohl dürfte für den informationswissenschaftlichen Klärungsprozess des Informationsbegriffs eine vorsichtige Wiederaufnahme des ursprünglichen ontologisch-erkenntnistheoretischen Verständnisses - nicht in traditionalistischer, sondern in pragmatischer Absicht - zur Festigung eines semantischen und zugleich anthropologisch begründeten Informationsbegriffs hilfreich sein. Dringlich erscheint sodann ein Hinweis auf die im allgemeinen Umgang mit Information zu meist vernachlässigte hermeneutische Dimension und nützlich dürften schließlich noch Anmerkungen sein zum begriffslogisch vertretbaren Umgang mit den im gegenwärtigen wissenschaftlichen wie alltäglichen Sprachgebrauch anzutreffenden verschiedenen Informationsbegriffen.
