Abstract

Diese völlige Neubearbeitung der 1953er Auflage des Lehrbuches von Krabbe und Luther will in die Probleme der organisatorischen Gestaltung der wesensspezifischen bibliothekarischen Arbeitsverfahren und Betriebsabläufe, insbesondere der in wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken, einführen. Aus dieser Absicht heraus kamen die Autoren nicht umhin, wertende Eingriffe in Auswahl, Umfang und Stellung einzelner Themen bzw. Sachverhalte der Erstausgabe vorzunehmen. Dies ergibt sich zwingend aus der Anwendung der Datenverarbeitung im Bibliothekswesen, aber auch aus der Tatsache, daß für Bibliotheken die Fragen der Wirtschaftlichkeit und auch marktpolitische Erwägungen zunehmend Bedeutung erlangen. Dem Umstand, daß sich im Rahmen von Begriffen wie Digitale, Elektronische oder Virtuelle Bibliothek eine immer größere Übereinstimmung im verwaltungstechnischen Bereich der verschiedenen Archiv-, Bibliotheks- und Dokumentationstypen (digitale Konvergenz) abzeichnet, tragen Ewert/Umstätter in besonderem Maße Rechnung. Die Neubearbeitung des Lehrbuchs möchte zweierlei: dem bibliothekarischen Nachwuchs eine Hilfe sein während der Ausbildungs- und Prüfungszeit und den heutigen Bibliothekaren und Dokumentaren als Ratgeber im Beruf dienen
