Abstract
»Es ist an der Zeit, Wissen anders zu schreiben«, wirbt ein Flaggschiff der deutschen Zeitungslandschaft für seinen neuesten Ableger: Zeit Wissen. Dieser doppeldeutige Slogan ist nur einer von vielen, der einen neuen Blick auf Wissen fordert. Aber jenseits von Pisa-Test, Quiz-Shows und Wissenschaftsfernsehen vollzieht sich ein ernstzunehmender Wandel, der seltener im Fokus der Massenmedien steht: das Entstehen der Wissensgesellschaft. Die Idee einer Wissensgesellschaft wird in allen Sphären des öffentlichen Lebens diskutiert - meist unter wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten. Der ökonomische Schwerpunkt mag dabei dem Ursprung der Idee geschuldet sein: die vordergründig soziologische, letztlich aber volkswirtschaftlich ausgerichtete Analyse des Wandels von Unternehmen. Auch der aktuell vorherrschende Trend, alles zu ökonomisieren, fördert eine Verengung des Begriffs auf Branchenstrukturen und Produktionsweisen. Die Wissensgesellschaft ist aber mehr: Auf politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Feldern prägt ihre Idee den gesellschaftlichen Wandel und ermöglicht Visionen, die der gängigen Ökonomisierung Alternativen entgegensetzt. So steht etwa das Konzept Open Source, frei erarbeitete und für alle zugängliche Software, nicht nur für eine alternative Gestaltung der Wissensgesellschaft, sondern auch für zukünftige Felder gesellschaftlicher Machtkämpfe.
