Abstract
Die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen Barney, dem Scottish Terrier des US-Präsidenten George Bush, und dem Helden der russischen Volkssage Ilja Muromez erschließen sich nicht auf den ersten Blick. Beide Figuren verbindet zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts jedoch eine besondere Mission: Sie sollen amerikanische und russische Kinder mit dem jeweiligen Präsidenten ihres Landes vertraut machen - im virtuellen Raum. Auf der Website »Lerne den Präsidenten kennen« und der Kinderabteilung der Homepage des Weißen Hauses stellen Barney und der Schüler »Iljuscha Muromzew« nicht nur das jeweilige Staatsoberhaupt vor, sondern erklären auch die Funktionsweise der Demokratie, die Staatssymbole und Wissenswertes aus der Geschichte des jeweiligen Landes.
