Abstract

Werden Weblogs, also Internet-Tagebücher, im Jahr 2007 wichtigere Nachrichtenangebote sein als Tageszeitungen? Darüber haben Martin Nisenholtz, Geschäftsführer von New York Times Digital, und Dave Winer vom Software-Unternehmen Userland.com eine Wette abgeschlossen und jeweils tausend Dollar gesetzt. Entschieden werden soll die Wette durch Google-Suchanfragen, mit denen Beiträge zu fünf wichtigen Nachrichtenthemen im Internet recherchiert werden sollen. Dabei wird verglichen, ob die New York Times oder Weblogs höhere Plätze in den Ergebnislisten der Suchmaschine erzielen. Nachzulesen ist die Wette auf der Website der »Long Bets Foundation«. Hinter der Wette verbirgt sich die folgende Frage: Wandelt sich die Vermittlung zwischen denen, die etwas mitzuteilen haben, und denen, die etwas aufnehmen, in der aktuellen Internet-Öffentlichkeit? Wird der traditionelle Journalismus im Internet an Bedeutung verlieren?
