Abstract

Das Programm dieses Kolloquiums hat an Anfang und Ende zwei Exponenten der Diskussion um die Informationsgesellschaft virtuell konfrontiert, die ebenso virtuell schon einmal vor etwa 18 Jahren aufeinander trafen. Ich hatte 1987 in der Zeitschrift "Cogito" einen Aufsatz veröffentlicht, der die These von Joseph Weizenbaum, die Computerisierung des Alltags würde zu einer "Quatsch-Explosion" und nicht zu einer Informations-Explosion der Informationsgesellschaft führen, aufgegriffen. Ich stellte dem als Thesen entgegen: - Es gibt technische und psychologische Möglichkeiten, eine Informationsgesellschaft anzusteuern, die die Probleme, die Weizenbaum mit der Metapher der "Quatsch-Explosion" andeutet, vermeiden könnte. - Dies bedeutete, dass wir über die Technisierung von Kalkülen menschliche Handlungsbedingungen wie Risikobereitschaft, Verantwortungsbereitschaft und Selbstwertgefühl nicht vernachlässigen dürfen. - Weiterhin müssten wir über die Engfüh-rung des Konzepts der technisierten Information ein menschliches Konzept des Wissens entwickeln, in dem vor allem nicht-technische Gesichtspunkte, die ich mit der Metapher "Ästhetik" belegt habe, eine Rolle spielen. Was ist daraus geworden? Lassen Sie mich heute drei Antworten geben: 1. Die möglichen utopischen Gehalte einer Informationsgesellschaft sind verspielt worden. "Informationsgesellschaft" hat nicht mehr viel mit "Information" zu tun, sondern nur noch mit Infrastruktur. 2. Die technische Bedrohung, die vor 20 Jahren noch großes Kopfzerbrechen bereitet hatte, hat sich bisher nicht in den Vordergrund geschoben-künstliche Intelligenz und informatische Modellierung sind bei weitem nicht so wirkungsvoll geworden, wie man erwartet hatte, dagegen hat sich aber mit dem Internet eine neue Plattform mit ganz neuen Problemlagen entwickelt, die andere Fragen in den Vordergrund rückt und einen neuen Blick auf die "OuatschExplosion" ermöglicht. 3. Das menschliche Konzept des Wissens hat auch heute noch gute Chancen zu einem wichtigen Faktor der gesellschaftlichen Selbstbeschreibung zu werden, aber es hat den Anschein, als würde die seinerzeit von mir gewählte Metapher der "Ästhetik" mit den Tendenzen zu "Spaßgesellschaft" und "Wiederverzauberung" irgendwie missverstanden. ... Warum erzähle ich Ihnen das auf einem Colloquium über Informationswissenschaft? Weil ich nach wie vor der Auffassung bin, dass das Hauptthema meiner Informationswissenschaft nicht die Informationsbedürfnisse im Kontext von Wissenschaft und Rationalisierung sind, sondern die Bedürfnisse, die die Menschen haben, um sich in ihrer ständig komplexer und unübersichtlicher werden Welt zurechtzufinden. Dazu brauchen sie zwar auch wissenschaftliches und technisches Wissen, aber auch alle möglichen anderen Wissensformen: Erfahrungen und Wertungen anderer Menschen, Wissen über Episoden, kontextgebundenes Wissen, virtuelles Wissen, Wissen um Werte und deren Anwendungen, Wissen um Lebensmodelle.
