Abstract
Ausgehend von einer umfassenden Beschreibung und Analyse von Patentrecherchen und -analysen erfolgt eine tiefgehende informationswissenschaftliche Erörterung und Bewertung von patentinformetrischen Messgrößen, die in der veröffentlichten Literatur bislang ohne Beispiel ist. Schmitz kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Systeme ein erhebliches Ausbaupotenzial besitzen, wobei darauf geachtet werden muss, dass die wünschenswerte Vereinfachung und Transparenz der Systeme nicht zu ihrer Trivialisierung führt. Aber auch Wirtschaftsunternehmen aller Größenklassen ruft Schmitz auf, Patentinformationen gebührend in ihrem betrieblichen Wissensmanagement zu verwenden und dabei auf die Anbieter einzuwirken, die notwendigen Funktionen passgerecht und nutzerfreundlich anzubieten. Patentinformationen spielen eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Vorbereitung der eigenen Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten und ermöglichen eine Beobachtung von Mitbewerbern und Technikgebieten. Patentschriften sind nicht nur Rechtsdokumente, sie enthalten vielmehr technisches Wissen, welches häufig nicht in Fachzeitschriften publiziert wird. Darüber hinaus geben sie beispielsweise Auskunft über die wirtschaftliche Situation eines Unternehmens, sind also auch Träger von Wirtschafts¬informationen. Diese Informationen können mittels Patentrecherche und anschließender Analyse zutage gefördert werden. Eine Herausforderung bei der Recherche in Patentdatenbanken ist die immense Treffermenge, die - kombiniert mit der Komplexität der Dokumente und einer hohen Informationsdichte - einen erheblichen Zeitaufwand bei der Weiterverarbeitung bedeutet. Hier leistet die Informetrie als informationswissenschaftliche Tool Box zur Analyse von Datenbankinhalten gute Dienste. Mit ihren Verdicht ungsmöglichkeiten bietet sie Instrumente, um verborgene Informationen in Dokumentmengen aufzuspüren und dabei auch die Informationsmenge zu verkleinern. Jasmin Schmitz geht der Frage nach, welche erprobten informetrischen Methoden auf den Patentbereich übertragbar sind und welche Erkenntnismöglichkeiten und Anwendungsfelder sich daraus ableiten lassen. Außerdem untersucht sie, wie mit bestehenden Patentanalysesystemen Patentinformetrie betrieben werden kann. Auf der Basis eines ausführlichen Marktüberblicks und ausgehend von Detailanalysen ausgewählter Produkte erarbeitet sie schließlich Verbesserungsvorschläge für solche Systeme.
