Abstract

Gemeinsam mit der Buchausgabe ist auch die multimediale Version der Brockhaus Enzyklopädie in einer neuen Ausgabe erschienen. Als Clou liegt ein USB-Stick mit dem gesamten Textinhalt bei.

"Langsam aber sicher entwickelt sich der USB-Stick auch zum Trägermedium für elektronische Nachschlagewerke. Der Brockhaus-Verlag liefert die aktuelle Ausgabe seines besten Stücks nicht nur auf DVD zur Installation aus, sondern packt die Inhalte auch auf einen 1 -Gigabyte-Stick, der gleichzeitig als Software-Schlüssel dient. Der Nachteil für den Anwender: der USBSpeicher muss immer angeschlossen sein, wenn der installierte Brockhaus geladen wird. Der große Vorzug aber liegt in der Mobilität. Der Speicher lässt sich bequem an jedem Windows-PC an- und abstöpseln und die Enzyklopädie steht sofort wieder zur Verfügung. Was Mediendesign und natürlich auch die Inhalte betrifft, spielt das deutsche Verlagshaus ja schon seit Jahren in der obersten Liga mit. Inhaltlich verwandte Themengebiete, Bilder, Videos und weiterführende Lexikon-Artikel werden einerseits am linken Fenster rand aufgelistet, andererseits eignen sich auch die computergenerierten Verknüpfungen im "Wissensnetz" und dessen dreidimensionale Weiterentwicklung, dem "3D-Wissensraum für kon krete Vorschläge zu weiterführenden und verwandten Informationen. Etwas umständlich ist aber immer noch die Verwaltung von Notizen, Lesezeichen und Sammelmappen, für einfachste Aktionen muss man oft drei Mal oder gar noch öfter klicken. Auch würden einige zusätzliche Tastaturkürzel hier von größtem Nutzen sein, gleiches gilt übrigens auch für die Navigation in Lexikon und Atlas. Preislich ist das Werk schon in einem Bereich angesiedelt, wo es fast schmerzt. Im Gegenzug enthält es wirklich alles, was derzeit bei Brockhaus an multimedialer Wissensvermittlung in Umlauf ist. Mit dabei sind natürlich der Atlas, das Kinder- und Jugendlexikon, ein Schulbereich und eine zeitlich beschränkte Anbindung an die sonst kostenpflichtigen Online-Dienste des Verlages bzw. von "Xipolis.net". Daneben findet man zahlreiche weitere Inhalte und Programme, darunter ein Englisch-Deutsch-Wörterbuch, eine Statistik-Funktion, die Zeitleiste, Schwerpunkt-Artikel zu wichtigen Themen, zahlreiche Videos, Bilder und Tondokumente und vor allem eine flexible Suchfunktion. Die Aktualisierungen sind bis Ende 2010 im Preis inkludiert."
