Abstract
Der Aufsatz stellt die Frage, welche Rolle die Digitale Bibliothek innerhalb des gesellschaftstheoretischen Modells der Wissensgesellschaft spielen kann. Zunächst wird gezeigt, dass der Begriff 'Wissensgesellschaft' keine normative Gesellschaftstheorie ist, sondern ein differenziertes Modell umschreibt, das weder in Bezug auf die gesamte Gesellschaft, noch auf die Digitale Bibliothek einfach übertragbar ist. Im zweiten Teil des Textes werden die Anschlussmöglichkeiten der Digitalen Bibliothek an das Modell Wissensgesellschaft näher untersucht. Dabei wird das soziologische Dreieck von Mensch, Umwelt und Politik als Schablone angelegt. Der Digitalen Bibliothek bieten sich innerhalb des Modells sowohl politische, als auch gesellschaftliche und auf das Individuum bezogene Handlungsmöglichkeiten. Der Aufsatz kommt zu dem Schluss, dass sich das Modell Wissensgesellschaft zur Positionierung der Digitalen Bibliothek im politischen und gesellschaftlichen Raum eignen kann, wenn begleitend eine kritische Reflektion der zugrunde liegenden Begriffe stattfindet. Dazu ist ein ständiger Austausch zwischen informationstheoretischen und soziologischen Ansätzen innerhalb der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft nötig.
