Abstract
Schnelligkeit und Kosten sind immer schon ein zentrales Thema für die Dokumentation und werden immer wichtiger. Herkömmliche Verfahren und Tools bieten oft nicht genügend Flexibilität. Das gilt für die gängigen Profi-Autorenwerkzeuge und erst recht wenn, wie immer häufiger dringend erforderlich, Verwaltungssysteme ins Spiel kommen. Hohe Lizenzkosten verbunden mit in der Regel noch viel höheren Kosten für Konfiguration, Schulung und Umstellung der Arbeitsabläufe machen ihren Einsatz aufwendig, teuer und ineffizient. Zudem ergeben sich, bedingt durch die weitgehend unstrukturierte Ausgangssituation, jahrelange Erprobungsphasen, in denen nicht selten ein Produktivbetrieb nur eingeschränkt oder noch gar nicht möglich ist. Grund genug, nach Alternativen Ausschau zu halten. Und es gibt sie in Form von Wikis. Während bei "echten" Verwaltungsumgebungen (Dateisystem oder datenbankengestütztes System) die Struktur des Inhalts vorher bekannt sein muss, passt sich ein Wiki organisch den Bedürfnissen an. Ohne lang zu planen, können wir einfach loslegen und kreative Wissensbasen realisieren. - Was ist ein Wiki? Wiki stammt aus dem Haiwaiianischen und heißt schnell. Damit ist das meiste schon gesagt, denn Wikis sind gedacht für den schnellen Wissensaustausch. Jeder berechtigte Benutzer kann die Inhalte eines Wiki lesen, durchsuchen, bearbeiten und miteinander verlinken. Wichtige Verwaltungsfunktionen stehen kostenlos zur Verfügung. Die Wiki-Idee wurde 1994 von Ward Cunningham für die unkomplizierte Kommunikation unter Entwicklern geboren. Heute gibt es zahlreiche Implementierungen für unterschiedlichste Zwecke. Technisch ist ein Wiki eine Server-Software, mit der Inhalte über einen einfachen WebBrowser editiert, durchsucht und angesehen werden können.
