Abstract

»The European Library« ist ein Portal, das Zugang zu den digitalen Sammlungen und Katalogen von derzeit 19 europäischen Nationalbibliotheken bietet. In diesem Jahr ist das Angebot der European Library weiter gewachsen.

"Folgende digitale Sammlungen sind hinzugekommen: - Tschechische Republik: Kramerius - eine Sammlung von digitalisierten Zeitschriften und Monografien aus dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert - Dänemark: Online-Archiv digitaler Faksimiles der schriftlichen Werke von Hans Christian Andersen - Estland: DIGAR - digitales Archiv von Online-Publikationen und digitalen Vordruckstufen von Veröffentlichungen öffentlicher Einrichtungen - Ungarn: Corvinas, Teil der Bibliotheca Corviniana, nach der Vatikanischen Sammlung die zweitgrößte Büchersammlung Europas zur Zeit der Renaissance - Lettland: Eine Sammlung digitalisierter Poster aus dem kulturellen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Leben Lettlands 1899 bis 2000 - Slowakische Republik: Memoria slovaca, Memory of Slovakia - eine digitale Bibliothek des kulturellen und wissenschaftlichen Erbes der Slowakischen Republik, betrieben von der Slowakischen Nationalbibliothek und anderen Institutionen des Kulturerbes. Außerdem haben die Nationalbibliotheken von Italien, den Niederlanden, Portugal, Serbien und der Schweiz Ressourcen zur maritimen Archäologie, Karten, Grafiken, seltene Handschriften und Kinderliteratur über »The European Library« neu verfügbar gemacht. Zurzeit bietet »The European Library« eine integrierte Suche über Sammlungen und Kataloge von 19 der 45 europäischen Nationalbibliotheken, die in der Konferenz der Europäischen Nationalbibliothekare (CENL) organisiert sind. Im September 2006 startete ein neues EU-finanziertes Projekt, das die Kataloge und Sammlungen der noch nicht teilnehmenden Nationalbibliotheken der EU- und EFTA-Länder integrieren wird: Belgien, Griechenland, Irland, Island, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Norwegen, Schweden und Spanien. Ein Ergebnis dieses Projektes »European Digital Library (EDL)« wird sein, dass bereits 2007 zwei Drittel aller CENL-Bibliotheken voll in »The European Library« integriert sind."
