Abstract

Issues confronting the cataloger of materials from India include problems relating to numerous languages with diverse scripts, confusion with variant name entries and how the name authority file handles this problem, some subjects pertaining to India and the people of India, and how the use of obsolete terms such as East Indies is an ongoing reference-service problem. Appendices list some of the most common problematic names and propose changes in some subject headings.
