Abstract
Immer wieder schlägt eine simpel gestrickte Medienkritik hohe Wellen in der Presse, ganz besonders dann, wenn mal wieder ein neuer publizistischer Schnellschuss zur desaströsen Wirkung von Fernsehen und Computern auf den Markt geworfen wird. In schöner Regelmäßigkeit trifft die Medienhysterie vor allem in bildungsbürgerlichen Kreisen auf große Resonanz. Da heißt es zum Beispiel gerne, dass Bildschirmmedien Kinder dick, dumm und sexuell frühreif machen, dass Computerspiele Aggressionen hervorrufen und dass das Internet die Welt in unbeherrschbare Risiken treibt. Ganz schön simpel - aber keinesfalls wissenschaftlich fundiert, wie Prof. Hans-Dieter Kübler überzeugt ist. Er stellt im Folgenden anhand einiger Neuerscheinungen detaillierte Fakten zur Mediennutzung vor. Und er zeigt auf, dass fortschrittliche Ansätze schon lange viel mehr danach fragen, was die Nutzer mit den Medien tatsächlich tun, wozu und in welcher Intensität sie diese nutzen, anstatt eine eindimensionale und per se schädliche Wirkung zu unterstellen.
