Abstract

Zwischen dem Bibliotheksbereich und der Dokumentation gab und gibt es in Deutschland traditionell zahlreiche Spannungen, Missverständnisse und Argwohn, aber auch erfolgreiche Kooperationen und die Integration dokumentarischer und bibliothekarischer Arbeit in großem Stil. Die vorliegende geschichtliche Betrachtung der Entwicklung der Dokumentation in Deutschland während der letzten gut hundert Jahre versucht, Bedingungen, Gründe und Erklärungen für das gespannte Verhältnis aufzudecken und kommt zu dem Schluss, dass die Trennung längst nicht mehr zeitgemäß und im Grunde bereits überwunden ist.
