Abstract
Cybergeld oder, wie die Amerikaner es nennen, Cybercash ist ein Wort, das unweigerlich die Phantasie anregt: Virtuelle bunte Welten, flimmernde Weiten eines nicht faßbaren Universums und schwebende Märkte, auf denen mit digitalen Geldstücken oder farbenfrohen Cyber-»Blüten« gehandelt wird. Die Realität ist eine andere. Das Marktvolumen für tatsächliche Cybercash-Anwendungen auf dem Internet ist eng begrenzt und wird es auch auf absehbare Zeit bleiben. Und nüchtern betrachtet steht jedem virtuellen Geld, auch dem auf dem Internet, immer ein reales Bankkonto gegenüber. Cybergeld ist in Wirklichkeit nichts anderes als eine hochentwickelte Form des bargeldlosen Zahlungsverkehrs.
