Abstract

Mit dem Aufkommen des Internets und der elektronischen Informationsangebote verändern sich die Anforderungen an Studenten bezüglich des Umgangs mit der Recherchearbeit rasant. Neue Fähigkeiten und Kenntnisse, die unter dem Begriff "Informationskompetenz" zusammengefasst werden können, werden vorausgesetzt, um mit der Ressource "Information" optimal umgehen zu können. Vorhandenen Informationsbedarf zu erkennen, nach Informationen effektiv und effizient zu suchen, deren Relevanz entsprechend einzuschätzen und Auswertungen kritisch vorzunehmen werden zu immer wichtigeren Schlüsselqualifikationen. Letztendlich ist das Absolvieren eines Studiums - jeglicher Fachrichtung, aber insbesondere in der Informationswissenschaft - ohne eine entsprechende Informationskompetenz kaum mehr möglich, deshalb hat die Vermittlung dieser Schlüsselqualifikationen mehr denn je an Bedeutung gewonnen und muss spätestens im Studium verstärkt gefördert werden. Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit dem Stand und der Entwicklung von Informationskompetenz angehender Information Professionals. Anhand einer Onlinebefragung von 346 Studenten der Informationswissenschaft und verwandten Studiengängen an mehreren Hochschulen bundesweit und in der Schweiz wurde eine Bestandsaufnahme vorgenommen: Welche Informationsdienste werden von Studenten bevorzugt? Wie wird die Herkunft bzw. die Qualität der darin gefundenen Informationen eingeschätzt? Welche Qualitätskriterien spielen dabei eine Rolle? Wie wird die Vermittlung der Informationskompetenz aufgenommen? Wie groß ist die Zufriedenheit der Studenten mit dem ausgewählten Studiengang?
