Abstract

Der zuständige Arbeitsausschuss 'Transliteration und Transkription« im Normenausschuss Bibliotheks- und Dokumentationswesen im DIN' hat zwei weitere Projekte abgeschlossen und legt als Ergebnis seiner Arbeit Umschriftnormen für das hebräische und das arabische Alphabet in einer vollständigen Überarbeitung vor.

"Im Januar 2011 ist »DIN 31636, Information und Dokumentation - Umschrift des hebräischen Alphabets« erschienen. Hier hatte insbesondere der teilweise fehlerhafte Druck der hebräischen Buchstaben in der Vorgängerausgabe eine Überarbeitung notwendig gemacht, die für weitere Verbesserungen genutzt wurde. So wurden die Erläuterungen und Beispiele gründlich überarbeitet und den hebräischen Buchstaben in den Umschrifttabellen die Unicode-Werte beigegeben. Die Norm berücksichtigt die aus der jahrzehntelangen Anwendung der DIN 31636 gewonnenen Einsichten und Desiderata und ist deshalb besonders anwenderfreundlich. Sie ist in der Wiedergabe der Grundbuchstaben des Alphabets identisch mit der Transliterationstabelle der American Library Association/Library of Congress (ALA-LC) und übernimmt auch die dort angewandten Transliterationsregeln des Hebräischen und Jiddischen. Damit trägt die revidierte Norm vor allem den Entwicklungen des modernen Hebräisch Rechnung und strebt mit der Übernahme der anglo-amerikanischen Regeln die Anbindung an eine internationale Standardisierung an, welche den zukünftigen Datenaustausch wesentlich vereinfachen wird.
Ebenfalls neu erscheinen wird in Kürze eine Neuausgabe der »DIN 31635, Information und Dokumentation - Umschrift des arabischen Alphabets für die Sprachen Arabisch, Osmanisch Türkisch, Persisch, Kurdisch, Urdu und Pasch-tu«. Die Erstellung dieser Norm war besonders aufwendig, da sie aktuelle, teilweise auch wechselnde sprachliche Entwicklungen in verschiedenen Ländern berücksichtigen musste. Die bisherige Norm wurde für Arabisch und Persisch geringfügig, für Osmanisch-Türkisch, Kurdisch und Paschtu jedoch grundsätzlich revidiert. Die Norm wurde für Urdu nur hinsichtlich der Umschrifttabelle geändert. Zur Verbesserung der Anwenderfreundlichkeit wurde die Norm neu strukturiert, indem die Umschriften der verschiedenen Sprachen so getrennt wurden, dass jede Sprache in einem eigenen Abschnitt behandelt wird. Die Hinweise zur Transliterationsarbeit beziehungsweise Umschriftvorgaben wurden für jede Sprache speziell angepasst und teilweise erweitert. Wie bei allen Normen des Arbeitsausschusses wurden den Umschrifttabellen die Unicode-Werte der arabischen und zusätzlich der mit diakritischen Zeichen versehenen lateinischen Buchstaben hinzugefügt.
Die Norm bezogen auf Arabisch und Persisch beruht weitgehend auf der 1935 vom Internationalen Orientalistenkongress angenommenen Empfehlung. Die für diese Sprachen vorgesehenen Umschrifttabellen sind fast identisch mit der Transliterationstabelle der ISO 233:1984. Die Norm unterscheidet sich von dieser aber in einzelnen Zusatzbestimmungen, die ausführlich erläutert werden. Die Umschrifttabelle im Abschnitt für das Arabische ist auf die klassische und auf die moderne arabische Schriftsprache anwendbar. Für die Umschrift des Osmanisch Türkischen, das in der Türkei bis 1928 Verwendung fand, wird auf eine Umschrifttabelle verzichtet und stattdessen eine Empfehlung für bestimmte Referenzwerke gegeben. Der Abschnitt Persisch gilt allgemein für die Staatssprache Irans wie für das Dari, das neben dem Paschtu offizielle Sprache in Afghanistan ist. Alle Dokumente in der pakistanischen Staatssprache wie der in Indien in der Regel Hindustani genannten Sprache sind nach der Vorgabe in Abschnitt 9 »Urdu« zu transliterieren."
