Abstract

Die Kommission für Management und betriebliche Steuerung des VDB veranstaltete vom 7. bis 8. Februar 2011 an der Universitätsbibliothek Mannheim einen Workshop mit dem Titel "Bibliotheken auf dem Holzweg? - Unsere Kernkompetenzen und die Konsequenzen". Als Moderator fungierte Nikolaus Huss, Politik-Berater mit den Schwerpunkten Strategie-Entwicklung, Lobbying und Interessenvertretung. Er führte durch den Workshop und ergänzte das Erarbeitete mit seinen Sichtweisen und Vorschlägen (Präsentationen von Herrn Huss und weitere Unterlagen unter: http://www.vdbonline.org/veranstaltungen/525/). Am Workshop nahmen 23 Personen teil. Die Zusammensetzung war sehr heterogen, was die Veranstaltung außerordentlich befruchtete. Neben Bibliotheksdirektoren, bzw. -leitern aus kleineren und größeren, wissenschaftlichen wie öffentlichen Bibliotheken waren Vertreter von Hochschulen, Fachstellen, Spezialbibliotheken und Verlagen anwesend. Der vielfältige Erfahrungshintergrund sorgte für ein breites Diskussionsspektrum. In vier Gruppen wurden am ersten Tag Szenarien erarbeitet, welche bibliothekarische Realität im Jahr 2050 Wirklichkeit werden könnte. Ausgangslage: Die Firma Google übernimmt die Bibliotheken, um sie zu lokalen Wissenszentren auszubauen, denn im Gegensatz zu Kommunen, Hochschulen oder Ländern ist nur noch Google mit seiner Finanzkraft fähig, diese Riesenaufgabe im Bereich der Informationsversorgung zu erfüllen. Zwei Gruppen vertraten die Interessen der öffentlichen und der wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken und trugen die Vor- und Nachteile für die Bibliotheken zusammen. Zwei weitere Gruppen beschäftigten sich mit den Strategien, unter welchen Bedingungen Google sein Vorhaben realisieren könnte. Aus diesem Szenario ergaben sich zum Abschluss des ersten Tages und mehrfach am zweiten Tag intensive Diskussionen. Im Folgenden sind die einzelnen Beiträge thematisch skizzenhaft zusammengefasst.
