Abstract
Der Wikipedia-Gründer Jimmy Wales spricht über seinen Einfluss auf die Politik, Wookies und Laserschwerter sowie die Zukunft der gedruckten Zeitung. Er arbeite oft im Bett, sagt er, weil er ja meist am Laptop sitze. Das glaubt man dem US-Amerikaner Jimmy Wales, 45, sofort. Nicht nur, weil er ziemlich entspannt wirkt, sondern auch, weil Wales mit einer Erfindung berühmt geworden ist, die zu dieser Behauptung passt: ein kostenloses Online-Lexikon, an dem jeder mitschreiben kann - dessen Fakten aber auch von jedem kontrolliert werden. Daraus wurde vor zehn Jahren Wikipedia, das heute meistgenutzte Lexikon der Welt, basisdemokratisch geführt und von einer Stiftung betrieben. Wales ist noch Ehrenvorsitzender und schreibt als Hobby-Autor an Wikipedia-Einträgen mit. Beruflich kümmert er sich aber mittlerweile um seine Firma Wikia, ein IT-Unternehmen, das eine Plattform für Spezial-Enzyklopädien aller Art betreibt. Auch Wikia ist eine Erfolgsgeschichte, zählt zu den 50 meistgenutzten Websites der Welt. "Uns geht's gut", sagt Wales - und lacht. Ganz entspannt.
