Abstract

Bücher, historische Dokumente, Filme, Gemälde, Fotografien, Tonaufzeichnungen, ... - so vielfältig die Zeugnisse unserer Kultur- und Wissenschaftslandschaft in Deutschland sind, so groß sind auch die Herausforderungen, all diese Schätze auf einer Plattform zu vereinen. Das ist das Ziel der Deutschen Digitalen Bibliothek (DDB), die langfristig die digitalisierten Bestände aus Bibliotheken, Archiven, Museen und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen über ein Internetportal verfügbar machen will. Neben organisatorischen, finanziellen und politischen Voraussetzungen braucht ein solches Vorhaben vor allem eines: eine robuste und innovative technische Infrastruktur.
